River Moves Though Snow

Akira Watts Gently psychedelic guitar that perfectly scratches a very specific itch. Like Black Eagle Child minus the field recordings or Chris Forsyth in his quieter moments this is altogether lovely. Favorite track: Imaginary Trouble.

about

Things seem darkest as light hits. There is a force we recognize but do not know. What we thought we wanted, what we thought we were, what we thought we knew. Imaginary ghosts are worse than the real. The safety in glass remove, the balm of contemplation. Below the thickest ice is life; storms come and go. "If you believe in nothing, it believes in you." Things grow in the midst of decay; river moves though snow.

The quotation in the passage above is from "Ye Sleeping Knights of Jesus" by Robyn Hitchcock. All songs by Aaron Riverwood except "Know" which is not a cover of Nick Drake's song of the same name in the same way that the bass line in "Ice Ice Baby" is not the same as "Under Pressure." Also, "Imaginary Trouble" is a traditional tune that Anne & Frank Warner recorded Lena Bourne Fish singing in East Jaffrey, NH, sometime in the early 1940s. My arrangement owes much to Cath & Phil Tyler of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, except for the B section, which is of my own devising.

Written, played, & recorded by Aaron Riverwood from December 2018-2019 at The Old Riverwood Place, Shelburne Falls, MA, using Garageband 3 on a 2009 Macbook Pro (RIP). Mastered by Tony Jillson at Ratite Studios, Ashfield, MA. Art by Rachel Riverwood.

Thanks to Allysen Callery, Janice Sorenson, Karen Zanes, and everyone else who listened, like John Affleck. Special extra thanks to Jeremy Withers, enabler-in-chief, and Rachel Riverwood, who is everything else.

File under: New England Psychedelia.
